Lou N. Zeek Lou's father was L.F. Zeek, the Dry Kiln operator for Lake Independence Lumber Co. and for the Brunswick Balke Co. The two companies shared space, and some services, along the Lake Shore. Mr. Zeek dried lumber for the Lumber Co, and "rough shaped" bowling pins for Brunswick after drying, the pins were shipped to Muskegon for final shaping and finishing. There was also an operation having something to do with wagon bodies. Probably run by the lumber Co. Big Bay was a typical old time Company Owned Town. Store, houses, everything was owned by the Company. Lou started in the Fourth Grand at Big Bay in 1923, the year these pictures were taken. He roamed the woods, and played around town, including the old bunk house where he became acquainted with many of the lumberjacks and mill workers. If you have questions for mr. Zeek about these pictures or about early life in Big Bay, you can write him at the following address: Lou Zeek 4365 TimberRidge Trail SW Wyoming, MI 49509
